1946 – RCYC Senior Club

I’ve made note of George H. Cuthbertson’s parents Allen and Elma giving him his sense of beauty of melody. He received his love of yachts from Shamrock.  His character and love of math from his years with his fellow classmates at University of Toronto School.  He learnt to sail at the RCYC Junior Club and his skills of the Engineer at the University of Toronto.  The final touch was combining all that love and his knowledge he gained as the RCYC measurer.   The last component to set G.H.C. on his path, was the people he met in the late 40’s at the RCYC.  In 1946 he graduated from Junior club to Senior club at the RCYC.  He truly began his racing career on a 6 meter called Mermaid.    As Dad said “One day, a beautiful brand new 45 foot sloop named Evangeline sailed into the R.C.Y.C.”

On it were men who would shape his life for years to come. Peter Davidson, Clifford Strange, Perry Connolly and Norman Walsh.
